Mini has launched the final combustion-engine iteration of the Cooper S in India, priced at Rs 44.90 lakh. This fourth-generation hatchback will start deliveries in September.
Mini has introduced the latest iteration of its iconic Cooper S hatchback in India, priced at Rs 44.90 lakh ex-showroom. Marking the fourth generation of the model, this new Cooper S is also the final version to feature a combustion engine. The deliveries for this highly anticipated vehicle will begin in September.
In its 3-door form, the new Cooper S maintains the classic design principles that date back to the original 1959 model. Globally, the model is also available in a 5-door variant, with an all-electric version set to be released later this year.
The new Cooper S has a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that generates 204hp and 300Nm of torque, a noticeable upgrade from the previous 178hp and 280Nm. This powerful engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, propelling the car from 0 to 100 kph in 6.6 seconds.
The exterior design of the Cooper S remains faithful to Mini’s signature style, featuring circular headlights and a new octagonal front grille. The vehicle’s body lacks chrome, and the wheel arches are accentuated with plastic cladding. The redesigned tail lights are now triangular and linked by a black plastic band on the tailgate. The glasshouse remains largely unchanged, with blacked-out pillars giving the roof a floating effect.
Inside, the new Cooper S adopts a minimalistic approach. The dashboard integrates the AC vents seamlessly, replacing the cluttered physical controls with a single band of toggle controls. A standout feature is the 9.4-inch round OLED touchscreen, which controls most of the car’s functions, including the HVAC system. This screen runs on Mini’s latest Android-based operating system, developed in collaboration with Samsung. Additionally, the interior is crafted with textured surfaces and is completely leather-free to emphasize sustainability.
Other notable features include a heads-up display, electrically adjustable front seats with a massage function for the driver, ambient lighting, a Harman Kardon sound system, connected car technology, six airbags, a Level 1 ADAS suite, and an electronic parking brake.
The Cooper S rides on 17-inch wheels as standard, with 18-inch wheels available as an option. Despite its unique position as a 2-door premium hatchback in the Indian market, the Cooper S will soon be accompanied by its electric counterpart, which is built on a dedicated electric platform.
