Discover the new MG Windsor EV, MG Motor India’s latest electric vehicle developed in partnership with JSW. Learn about its features, interior, range, and expected launch details.
MG Motor India is set to launch a groundbreaking electric vehicle (EV) named the Windsor EV, marking its first collaboration with JSW. As MG’s third EV in India, following the Comet and ZS EV, the Windsor EV is expected to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market. The Windsor EV is a crossover-style multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) derived from the Wuling Cloud EV, currently sold in Indonesia by MG’s parent company, SAIC.
This new model combines the characteristics of a large hatchback and an MPV, featuring a length of approximately 4.3 meters and a wheelbase of 2,700mm. Despite its MPV-like stance, the Windsor EV offers seating for only five passengers across two rows. Built on a born-electric platform, it maximizes interior space with a minimalist design, incorporating a large floating touchscreen and minimal physical controls. Teaser videos reveal features like a panoramic sunroof and an advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) with a 360-degree camera.
The Windsor EV will be available with two battery pack options internationally: a 37.9kWh battery providing a range of 360km, and a 50.6kWh battery offering 460km. It’s powered by a front-axle mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 134hp. However, the specific battery option for the Indian market is yet to be confirmed.
Distinct from the ZS EV, which is based on an internal combustion engine platform, the Windsor EV utilizes a dedicated electric skateboard platform, offering a crossover shape with short overhangs and a long wheelbase. This design allows for more efficient use of space and innovative interior features.
MG Motor India plans to localize production extensively, including the battery pack, aiming to price the Windsor EV below Rs 20 lakh. This pricing strategy positions the Windsor EV competitively against models like the Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV400, and the forthcoming Tata Curvv EV. The Windsor EV is expected to be launched below the existing ZS EV in MG’s lineup.
While an exact launch date hasn’t been disclosed, MG has begun marketing efforts with multiple teasers, suggesting an official debut in late August or early September.
